Message Government debauchery plays a huge role, but your glossing over the other huge problems with healthcare spending, such as:

the fact that there is absolutely no incentive on behalf of consumers or providers to seek value.

the fact that new drugs/therapies/treatments have periods of exclusivity where the companies that develop them try to not only makde up the huge cost of development, but ensure the max profit before others are alowed to compete.

the fact that providers and consumers are led to believe that these drugs/therapies/treetments are the only, or best option even after the periods of exclusivity or when there are better and cheaper alternatives.

and mostly just because of the pace of advancement in quality of care. In theory the cost of something should go down over time while the benefits of that thing should remain constant. However if you incrimentaly improve on that thing then the cost never has a chance to normalize, even if the benefits are only marginally improved. Lots of biomed co.'s abuse this to the detriment of society.

The healthcare industry is just as screwed up from unchecked capitalism as it is from socialist bureaucrats.
